I need to get in shape before I can start jiu jitsu.
False! The best way to get in shape for BJJ is to do BJJ. Our instructors will make sure you are starting at a good pace for where you are right now.
What is an average class like?
The class will start with a warm-up, followed by instruction. Moves will be broken down into easy to execute moves. Fundamental classes will be followed by open mat for extra drilling or rolling (sparring).
What do I wear?
For a gi class: wear comfortable workout clothes to go under a uniform we will provide
For a nogi class: comfortable athletic clothes, shorts with no pockets or leggings.
​Shoes: slides or flip flops are best/easiest
What class should I attend if I am new?
Fundamental classes, whether gi or nogi, are the best classes for beginners. You will be partnered with someone that has experience and can help you succeed and train safely.
I can't afford to get hurt.
No problem! Our classes are structured to keep you and your training partners safe. You can train safely and still kick butt!​ Let the instructor know if you have any restrictions.​
I'm afraid I'm a slow learner.
This will differ based on each person, how many classes they take and natural ability. The good news is we don't expect you to learn in a timeframe. Come as you are, ready to learn and we will get you there!
